Function: Manufacturing Engineering
Title: Metallurgical Engineer - 63958

Your Position:

As a Metallurgical Engineer for John Deere Construction and Forestry, located in Dubuque, IA you will be part of the Materials Engineering team for the Construction and Forestry Division. This position is responsible for completing metallurgical evaluations while becoming integrated into the Deere organization. In addition, you will:

  • Perform metallurgical failure analysis
  • Help to address metallurgical shop floor issues
  • Optimize laboratory equipment operation
  • Evaluate metallurgical quality of supplier parts
  • Learn and apply NDE processes
  • Become familiar with Deere standards while assisting in identifying need for revision, and assist in limited support for design engineering in development of new product.

What Skills You Need

  • Excellent communicator looking to grow in the metallurgical field
  • Strong mechanical aptitude (understanding of basic mechanical operations and exposure to hands-on use of hand and power tools)
  • Experience using metallographic sample preparation skills
  • Fluent with MS Office Suites
  • Experience in metal manufacturing, analysis or processing

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Knowledge of metal manufacturing methods coupled with practical manufacturing experience
  • Knowledge of steel and cast-iron materials and their properties
  • Technical knowledge to conduct destructive and non-destructive testing and evaluation of materials
  • Working knowledge of heat treat processes such as carburizing, induction hardening, through hardening, normalizing and the properties produced
  • Failure analysis and fractography knowledge
  • Knowledge in various industry metal processing, and validation to governing specifications and standards
  • Experience with Non Destructive Testing evaluation

Education (or equivalent work experience)

Ideally, you will have a degree or equivalent work experience in the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical/Materials Engineering or Materials Science or equivalent experience.
