Chief Information Officer

The Chief Information Officer is a service-oriented leader who will deliver efficient and effective technology systems and services that advance the teaching, research, and service mission of UW-Platteville. The CIO is an active leader of the University, Division of Administrative Services, university-wide groups, and UW-System groups.

Chief Information Officer Details

Leadership and Management skills:
• Provide leadership, budgeting, planning and management for all components of the system development life cycle including selection, development, maintenance, operations, installation and problem resolution.
• Set the direction for technology through strategic planning, evaluation, and prioritization.
• Ensure the effective gathering of all stakeholder needs and provide guidance on the evaluation, selection, and implementation of systems that meet those needs.
• Supervise the professional growth and accountability of ITS personnel while maintaining a positive work environment.
• Actively participate in and provide leadership in UW-System and statewide information technology initiatives.

Information Technologies include:
• Infrastructure such as networks, servers, security and hosted solutions and relationships
• Voice and data communications
• Academic solutions such as learning management systems and classroom technologies
• Enterprise-wide systems such as student information, human resources, payroll and financial systems
• End-user focused services including training and user support systems
• Reporting systems including business intelligence

Qualifications:
• Demonstrable experience managing and implementing organizational change
• Demonstrable experience solving strategic and tactical issues
• Familiarity with ERP implementation process, business intelligence, project management, and university shared governance.
• Demonstrable experience with formulating technology strategy, budget, and policies at multiple levels of an organization.
• Demonstrable knowledge of current challenges and trends in higher education IT management.
• Substantial skills and experience in project management and principles and practices for the management of information technologies, systems analysis, design and operation.

Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Information Systems or Bachelor’s in Business with strong technology experience.
• Preferred, not required: Master’s degree in an IT-related field or MBA with a significant emphasis on technology management

Experience:
• Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in information technology.
• Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience.
• Preferred, not required: Higher education experience
