Internship: National Farm Toy Museum
The National Farm Toy Museum is seeking a qualified university or college student desiring to gain hands-on experience in a museum setting. This paid internship is available during May – August 2017 and made possible with the assistance of an internship grant from the Silos and Smokestacks National Heritage Area.
This internship will focus on the digital curation of the museum’s collection to create digital tour guide of the museum. The intern will be working primarily with the National Farm Toy Museum Manager on a variety of projects related to establishing the Museum’s first digital tour programs. The intern will experience all aspects of working in a museum. Specific duties include research and preparing materials for tours; interacting with visitors and groups, developing tools and curriculum for various exhibitions.
- Perform background research
- Implement new digital tours
- Develop promotional materials
- Perform online marketing and promotion
- Assist with documentation and analysis of program/exhibit/shows
- Front desk duties including handling customer phone calls, processing admissions
Excellent computer skills, social media experience preferred. Excellent research, written and oral communication skills, excellent organizational skills, and attention to detail are important. Intern needs to be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Experience in the following areas is preferred: graphic design; marketing/communications; museum studies; teaching experience; good written communication skills; public speaking skills; background in educational theory and practice; computer skills, word-processing; and basic office skills. The National Farm Toy Museum is a small organization and all staff members, as well as interns are often called on to do any number of things such as assisting with public programs, basic office work, mailings, etc.
