LEASE MANAGEMENT INTERN – ENGINEERING

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The City of Dubuque Engineering Department has one internship opening for a Lease Management Intern. The main responsibility of the lease intern is to work with the department’s Project Manager to maintain the department’s land leasing program. This position assists with the drafting of new leases and lease amendments for negotiating with private parties and businesses that are interested in leasing City owned property.

EXAMPLES OF WORK (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY):

ESSENTIAL:  Tasks include review of legal documents relating to current leases, drafting new leases and corresponding with lease holders, telephone coordination with lease holders, coordinating lease map exhibits production with the City's GIS staff, transfer of paper files into an organized, electronic file format, updating lease information in MS Access database and responding to citizens questions and service requests in a courteous, timely and equitable manner.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

ESSENTIAL:  Preferred educational background includes areas such as business administration, public administration, law, accounting, marketing, corporate communications, and related courses. The ideal candidate will be able to function comfortably in a professional work environment, possess solid business writing skills, be self-motivated, be able to work independently with minimal supervision and will have completed their freshman year or more in their field of study. Technical skills necessary for the position include MS Word, MS Excel, and either knowledge of or willingness to learn MS Access, knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion and experience working with a diverse workforce. The successful candidate will possess a demonstrated ability to follow a management style that is input oriented and values equity, problem solving and the development of partnerships and a desire to be part of an organization that values service, people, integrity, responsibility, innovation and teamwork.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: The internship is scheduled to begin mid­June and end in mid­August. Compensation will be $13.60 ­to $15.79 per hour depending on experience and capabilities. The work is full­time during the summer. Normal hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Overtime if necessary for projects, work hours could be 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Candidates may have the opportunity to work part-time during school, full­time during winter break, and to return for subsequent summers. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license and automobile insurance coverage consistent with the City’s requirements.

OVERTIME REQUIREMENT: Non-exempt
