English Language Program Lecturer

Position Summary:

The UW-Platteville ESL program is growing, and we are looking to hire 1 part-time position with 5-15 contact hours per week and 1 full-time position with 20 contact hours per week. The anticipated start date is August 20, 2018 for the 2018-2019 academic year. Annual renewals is a possibility.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate student assignments, presentations, projects, written work, etc. using criteria relevant to the course content and guidelines provided by the program.
  • Hold weekly office hours and/or by appointment.
  • Take part in the administration of placement tests.
  • Take part in orientation-week duties.
  • Supervise field trips when needed.
  • Adhere to the prescribed curriculum and standards of the program.
  • Attend regularly scheduled faculty meetings.
  • Assist in curriculum review and the development of course materials.
  • Maintain and submit accurate records pertaining to student attendance and progress throughout the duration of the program.
  • Assist in placement decisions for current students at the end of each session.
  • Communicate and work cooperatively with colleagues in the ELP.
  • Maintain a professional manner and appearance at all times.
  • Use Learning Management System and other software

 

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree (in any subject) and a valid TESOL Certificate; preferred Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics, TESOL or comparable field
  • A minimum of 3 years full-time ESL teaching to adults, preferably in a university setting
  • Experience in teaching all areas of English language (listening, speaking, reading, writing, pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar)
  • Experience in teaching English for Academic Purposes
  • International teaching experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Experience using LMS system
