The Maternal Child Services Clinical Nurse Specialist is a member of the Mercy Medical Center education team and is accountable for advancing and maintaining nurse competency, enhancing professional nursing practice, and supporting achievement of career goals, building on educational and experiential bases of nurses across the novice to expert continuum for the ultimate objective of ensuring delivery of efficient, effective, safe, quality and compassionate patient care. The CNS cultivates an environment that promotes an appetite for lifelong learning by supporting the development of effective, quality, innovative, creative and fun continuing education activities, implementing evidence-based practice innovations, and continually evaluate further learning needs and/or practice changes. The CNS supports a shared leadership philosophy and advances the professional practice model for patient care services.
The Clinical Nurse Specialist for Maternal Child Services will have an emphasis on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatrics in regards to providing education and care. Qualified candidate must show competency with utilizing research and evidence-based practice standards in the delivery of patient care and educational offerings; continuously seek out opportunities to improve the quality of patient care delivery through innovative and creative problem solving; contribute to the positive image of nursing and enhance the magnetic culture of the organization by modeling professional behavior both in the organization and in the community; and serves as the resource for preceptors and assists them with problem solving. Ideal candidate will also possess ability to staff unit(s) in time of high census or during a critical need.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree with a strong NICU/Pediatrics background or agreement to complete MSN within four (4) years of hire. Current RN licensure in Iowa; certification by a nationally recognized nursing organization in staff development and/or an appropriate specialty area is recommended, as is membership in an appropriate professional nursing organization. Experience and leadership in clinical and professional practice development is preferred.
