Mercy Medical Center is a not for profit Catholic hospital serving the tri-state area of Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin since 1879. Mercy – Dubuque has 263 beds while Mercy – Dyersville is a critical access hospital with 25 beds and a 40-bed nursing home.
Mercy offers a full range of acute care services, including invasive cardiology and open-heart surgery, Level II trauma center, Level II regional neonatal intensive care unit, general and orthopaedic surgery, psychiatric services and inpatient physical rehabilitation. Mercy also operates two hospital-based skilled nursing units, extensive outpatient rehabilitation services, home health care, retail pharmacy and a wide range of outpatient, community and business services. Under the direction of the VP Finance, plans, directs and coordinates financial processes and systems. Areas of responsibility include general accounting, payroll, accounts payable, decision support, financial forecasting, budget development, financial analyses, financial reporting, external audits, fixed asset and property accounting, cash management, and legal file maintenance. The Director develops the department's operating and capital budgets, develops departmental goals and objectives and ensures that services are provided in a manner consistent with the mission and philosophy of Mercy. Assists in the hospital's strategic planning process. Responsible for the direct supervision of finance staff.
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required. Master's Degree in Business Administration preferred. Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP) or Fellow of HFMA (FHFMA) desirable. Requires four to six years experience in accounting and financial management of which at least two years should be in a supervisory or management position. Direct experience in the hospital field or in the public accounting field performing audits for health care institutions. Experience with and understanding of the monthly financial closing process. Must be familiar with hospital accounting systems, which requires knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles in both theory and practical application. Experience with financial software (i.e. Kaufman Hall Budget Advisor, etc.); computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), educational software (i.e. HealthStream), Intranet; and use of various reporting tools. Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals and values of Trinity Health.
