United Clinical Laboratories (UCL) is a medical laboratory providing routine, emergency and reference laboratory services to Dubuque's major health care providers and people residing within a 50-mile radius.
UCL is recognized both locally and nationally for it's comittment to quality and it's innovative use of resources and technology.
UCL is a for-profit business venture owned by MercyOne Medical Center, UnityPoint Health, and Pathology Associates. The three owners created UCL in 1986 in anticipation of the current trends now seen in the health care industry. Pathology Associates has five board-certified pathologists located at MercyOne Medical Center-Dubuque and UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospitals. They provide clinical laboratory consultation to patients and physicians in the Tri-State area 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
UCL operates at five (5) sites: MercyOne Medical Center-Dubuque, MercyOne Medical Center-Dyersville, UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospital, Medical Associates of Maquoketa, and Cathedral Square. UCL's mission is to provide reliable, timely and accurate laboratory results to physicians, providers, and patients.
UCL has 160 well-trained, highly skilled staff members, working both full and part time. Employment opportunities at UCL are wide-ranged, including traditional laboratory positions: medical technologists, medical laboratory technicians, cytotechnologists, histotechnicians and phlebotomists. UCL also offers many non-traditional laboratory careers including: information technology, human resource management, materials management, accounting, and medical billing.

UCL seeks a certified MLS or MLT to work evenings. Compensation based upon skills and experience. Spring graduates may apply.
This position is full-time, generally scheduled as an 8-hour shift, e.g. 2:00-10:30 PM. Weekend rotation is typically every third Saturday/Sunday. Holiday rotation is typically one summer and one winter holiday.
Independently analyze biological specimens and provide timely and accurate diagnostic information. All employees must observe safety and infection control policies. Use advanced knowledge, critical thinking skills, and judgment to identify, troubleshoot and resolve issues that may adversely affect test results. May operate, calibrate and maintain laboratory instrumentation.
Required Certification and Education:
MLS / MT - Requires a 4-year degree through an accredited Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) program and ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) board certification. Starting pay range $23-30 per hour.
MLT - Requires 2-year degree through an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program and ASCP board certification. Starting pay range $20-24 per hour.
We will consider recent MLS or MLT graduates who have not yet completed the ASCP exam. Must be certified within 6 months after hire.
Military education and experience will be considered, provided that the applicant has completed the full laboratory training course of 52 weeks and has at least one year’s experience in a military hospital.
