Mercy Medical Center is a not for profit Catholic hospital serving the tri-state area of Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin since 1879. Mercy – Dubuque has 263 beds while Mercy – Dyersville is a critical access hospital with 25 beds and a 40-bed nursing home.
Mercy offers a full range of acute care services, including invasive cardiology and open-heart surgery, Level II trauma center, Level II regional neonatal intensive care unit, general and orthopaedic surgery, psychiatric services and inpatient physical rehabilitation. Plans and directs the operation of the Health Information Management Department, including the Coding and Medical Transcription areas. Maintains health information records in compliance with state laws, Joint Commission requirements, third party payers and hospital policies. Maintains necessary statistics required for State, Federal and other regulatory agencies. Acts as a resource for health information issues related to third party payers. Serves as the hospital’s lead resource for issues relating to record retention and record destruction requirements. Coordinates functions between hospital units, acts as a resource, maintains support services for medical staff quality improvement activities and ensures confidentiality of patient information. Maintains the department’s operating budget, develops goals and objectives and ensures that services are provided in a manner consistent with the mission and philosophy of Mercy Medical Center (MMC). Selects, develops and maintains a team of competent staff.
Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management Administration or related field. Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 5 years thereafter. RHIT (Accreditation as a Registered Health Information Management Technician) or RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator); Member of AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association). Two to three years’ experience in all phases of health information management preferred. Demonstrated leadership and management abilities. Prefer 1+ years experience in a leadership role. Experience with computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), GroupWise, educational software (i.e. HealthStream), Intranet; electronic medical record, and use of various reporting tools. Experience with and understanding of budgeting. Knowledge of and understanding of the legal issues as it relates to health information management.
