Construction Materials Lab Technician

BARD Materials is seeking a detail-oriented, forward-thinking candidate to join our team as a Construction Materials Lab Technician at our Central Lab in Dubuque, Iowa. This position is in our Technical Services department and would report directly to our QC/QA Analyst.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Construction Materials Lab Technician will perform various forms of field and/or laboratory testing, observations, and inspection of construction materials. The Construction Materials Lab Technician will have opportunities to aid in the field testing of concrete and aggregates during peak production times. This role plays an integral part in data creation for the future of concrete and aggregates. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • The measurement of concrete and aggregate specimens to a standard
  • Conduct aggregate gradations on a daily basis
  • Assembly of reports and delivery to appropriate team members in a timely manner
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient workspace
  • Ensure lab and field equipment is properly maintained and calibrated per BARD’s Quality Management System
  • Partake in internal and external proficiency testing
  • Communicate directly with field and production personnel to ensure timely testing
  • Accurate and timely invoicing for work performed

What you need:

  • A vocational degree in a relatable field or 3 years of applicable experience
  • American Concrete Institute Field Technician Training desired or within 6 months of hire
  • Strong Excel, Microsoft Word, and general computer skills
  • A willingness to work with a positive attitude towards all supporting departments
  • Ability to work in a laboratory setting as well as at construction sites, in various weather conditions
  • The ability to effectively and tactfully communicate with a focus on solutions to challenges
  • Candidates must be able to lift and/or move up to 60 lbs. independently and 30 lbs. above the waist
