Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) serves the transfer, career and technical education needs of our region’s residents, businesses and industries in a district area that encompasses eight counties and approximately 5,000 sq. miles. More than 28,400 students enroll in Business and Community Solutions courses and academic certificate, diploma and degree programs every year. NICC offers associate’s degrees and general education courses that readily transfer to four-year colleges and universities, and state-of-the-art technology and lab areas that prepare students for high demand careers.
The College has two primary campuses in Peosta and Calmar, and seven service locations in Cresco, Dubuque, Manchester, New Hampton, Oelwein and Waukon, that offer convenient amenities, services, educational resources and computer labs for students.
As one of northeast Iowa’s largest employers, the College employs 680 faculty and staff members, and the average tenure of all part-time and full-time faculty is 12 years.
To develop relationships throughout the district through which to recruit, refer, and support new students/participants through outreach in designated NICC district area. Serve as a representative of NICC to promote and provide educational services that respond to community needs. Help students navigate the systems, services, resources and training available to successfully facilitate a pathway to a career or further education. Assists the student to troubleshoot barriers through education and training and work with student to obtain employment or additional training.
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Provide prospective students and applicants with information regarding admission to the College and related enrollment processes. Serve as a member of the NICC recruitment team to actively recruit prospective students to attend Northeast Iowa Community College Assist in recruitment initiatives with prospective students by outreaching to communities and school districts through parent events, connections with local businesses, and partnerships with community organizations. Assist students in completing academic skills assessment, interest and career inventories, work readiness assessments, and/or motivation and behavior assessment. Work to develop relationship with students through intake information, discussion of potential barriers to success, and educational and career planning.
Connect students to necessary educational resources, social services, workforces services, and other resources as appropriate. Provide career facilitation for all levels of education including career planning, resume development, job search resources, job application procedures, interview skills, soft skills, interview preparation in anticipation of a student’s successful completion of a program. Work with students to determine their next best step on their career pathway after completion of their program.
Facilitate a successful transition for students moving from non-credit or HS programs to NICC credit programs and through program completion into the workforce.
Provide holistic advising and career coaching for students through a variety of methods or tools based on the student’s preferred style. Provide individualized, holistic coaching and career facilitation services that lead to local employment or educational program enrollment
Maintain accurate and detailed documentation on program participants and program outcomes as required by success model programs. Serve as an advocate and liaison between assigned students and other College staff. Actively serve on College or external committees related to the grant as assigned by supervisor. Attend training or conferences necessary to meet the duties and responsibilities of the position..

Bachelor’s degree required. Degree or relevant work experience in a health field preferred.
Demonstrated experience in proactive customer service and student support. Experience in student advising, teaching or counseling desirable.
Evidence of the ability to teach/motivate students at the college level.
Demonstrated understanding of the challenges facing the community college student population.
Demonstrated ability to develop positive mentoring/coaching relationships with a diverse student population. Highly organized, strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and progress reports and meet deadlines and program outcomes for grant compliance.
Demonstrated ability to work with people effectively. Possess strong written, verbal and electronic communication skills.
Commitment and willingness to participate fully in quality improvement at the personal, departmental, and institutional levels.
Demonstrated computer abilities, including Microsoft Office Suite, and the willingness and ability to learn new software and technology tools.
Ability to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced work environment.
Proven ability to meet deadlines and program outcomes for grant compliance.
Collaborate with internal and external grant partners to provide quality, seamless student service and support.
Personal qualities of honesty, flexibility, approachability, enthusiasm, and sense of humor.
Flexibility in work hours and willingness to travel within District is required.
