The City of Dubuque has operated under the Council/Manager form of government since 1920. Under this form, legislative responsibility rests with the City Council and administration authority is given to a professional City Manager.
The City Council is responsible for setting overall policies and goals for the City and is comprised of the Mayor and six members who are selected in a non-partisan election for four year terms. POLICE DEPARTMENT INTERN (CRO)
The City of Dubuque invites applications for the position of Community Resource Officer (Police Department Intern). This is an in-depth internship program designed to not only meet the needs of most college internship programs, but to also provide the Dubuque Police Department with an opportunity to evaluate the applicants’ potential as a police officer. This is a limited term position with duration of approximately 4-6 months with a work week of approximately 20 hours. The successful candidate will assist sworn and civilian employees of the Dubuque Police Department with a variety of law enforcement related duties. The successful candidate will possess a high school diploma or its equivalent; current or recent enrollment in college level course work; experience working with a diverse population; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the essential knowledge, skills and abilities. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to follow a management philosophy that is input oriented and values equity, problem solving and the development of partnerships and a desire to be part of an organization that values service, people, integrity, responsibility, innovation and teamwork.
