PA Clinical Education Director

The University of Dubuque is seeking applicants for the position of PA Clinical Education Director  in the Physician Assistant Program.  The University of Dubuque offers an excellent benefits package including a tuition remission policy, paid holidays, sick time, 4 weeks of vacation, as well as contributes to retirement and life insurance.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the clinical portion of the program is in compliance with all accreditation standards
  • Design original or review and modify, as appropriate, existing curricula to support course and program learning outcomes
  • Clinical site development, including locating prospective sites, recruiting sites, and formulating affiliation agreements
  • Maintain ongoing communication, orientation, and evaluation of clinical sites and preceptors
  • Develop and coordinate the clinical year master rotation schedule and assign students to clinical placements in collaboration with the clinical coordinator
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate student and preceptor performance
  • Develop methods to assess each student has met the program learning outcomes
  • Develop and provide orientation to the clinical phase for students
  • Coordinate site visits and review student progress during the clinical phase
  • Manage clinical tracking software, Typhon, to assess clinical phase of the program
  • Develop, maintain, monitor and document the progress of each student during the clinical phase of the program that allows prompt identification of deficiencies in knowledge or skills
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement call back day curriculum in collaboration with the clinical coordinator
  • Coordinate and plan mechanisms to recognize clinical partners
  • Serve as instructor for clinical courses and other didactic courses, as assigned
  • Evaluate student performance in the didactic and clinical phases of the program
  • Participate in student admissions and interviewing process
  • Co-chair the Curriculum Review Committee and attend regularly scheduled department meetings
  • Maintain an active role in the Iowa Physician Assistant Society, represent the PA Program in appropriate community activities, participate in national organizations supporting PAs
  • Maintain an active clinical practice averaging 6 hours per week
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the University’s mission



  • PA with an appropriate master’s degree or higher from an accredited PA program
  • Current NCCPA certification
  • Current, valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in Iowa (or eligible to hold and maintain)
  • Minimum of 3 years full-time clinical experience
  • Experience relevant to educational settings
  • Ability to write reports and professional correspondence
  • Ability to speak and interact effectively before groups of medical professionals, faculty, students, administrators, and key stakeholders



  • 2+ years of educational experience in an academic setting
  • Prior teaching or precepting experience
  • Strong quantitative and analytic skills
  • Familiarity with ARC-PA accreditation process and requirements
