Portzen Construction began in 1983 with several housing rehab projects where they converted old buildings. Portzen Construction was incorporated in May of 1989, changing the name to Portzen Construction, Inc. The company has since developed into a multi-faceted organization. Our capabilities include: complete excavation services for underground utilities, water service, storm and waste water piping, street repairs, and building foundations; concrete services for roads, streetscapes, parking lots and street paving, building foundations and structural concrete; carpentry services for residential, commercial and industrial structures including framing, finishing, cabinetry, siding and roofing; plumbing services for residential, commercial, and industrial projects including process piping for water treatment, waste water treatment plants and aquatic facilities for moderate size cities.
Portzen Construction, Inc., a growing company, has an opening for a Civil Project Manager. This position will work on a variety of projects, including concrete paving and flatwork, site designs, utility work such as storm water, sanitary sewer, water and wastewater systems, grading, excavation, backfill, retaining walls, etc. This is a unique opportunity to work with several professionals on a wide variety of projects.
Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
Three years’ experience and developing expertise in the following areas:
- Urban/Rural streets, paving, and utilities.
- Storm water management and storm sewer systems.
- Water supply infrastructure including water distribution systems, wells, ground and elevated storage tanks, pumping facilities, and treatment facilities.
- Wastewater treatment infrastructure including collection systems, lagoons, mechanical treatment facilities, lift stations, and disinfection.
- Erosion control and grading.
Ability to effectively communicate with staff, clients, contractors, engineers and regulatory agencies.
Development of cost estimates, budgets, review subcontractor quotes, review supplier quotes, review plans, specifications, addendums, alternates, visit jobsite, research all job requirements to complete a full bid.
Solicit subcontractors and suppliers for proposal prior to proposal submission time.
Distribute contract documents to subcontractors, including drawings, specifications, and general conditions. Include any accepted alternates or addendums with documents.
Review / negotiate / prepare contracts for subcontractor and/or suppliers.
Submit / apply for all necessary permits prior to starting work, follow-up on review progress and receive upon approval.
Work with project team to successfully complete projects from start to finish.
Prepare correspondence with Owner, Architect, Engineers, Subcontractors, Suppliers, etc. Examples of referenced correspondence include, but not confined to the following items: Schedule of Values, project schedule, memos, request for information, transmittals and submittals.
During Construction Phase, proactively manage project to achieve quality, schedule, budget and safety. Utilize and maintain tools: schedule and document management to track and record project performance.
Document quality and progress of each Subcontractor and Suppliers. Update Subcontractors and Suppliers of any changes to the plans, specifications and/or schedule.
Creating and updating project schedule using Microsoft Project scheduling software.
Accountable for receiving approved submittals from Architect or Engineer and notifying the Project Superintendent of potential schedule impact.
Preparing all change order requests, reviewing official change orders to owner and writing changes orders to subcontractors and suppliers.
Responsible for timely completion of all required project close-out documents per contract.
Distribute final requirement documentation to subcontractors.
Schedule all required construction meetings with required personnel, subcontractors, architects and owners.
Facilitate Owner/Architect/Contractor pre-construction, progress meetings and closeout meetings.
Take accurate and complete meeting minutes and distribute timely.
Communicate with Project Superintendent regarding concerns about construction progress.
Communicate with project engineer and owner throughout construction progress.
Develop and submit pay estimates to owner / engineer for monthly pay requests.
This position is a full-time position of 45 hours per week, with a salary depending on experience.
