Consistent with the American Nurses Association Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice, the professional nurse is a member of the MercyOne Dubuque/Dyersville Medical Center healthcare team and is accountable for the delivery of holistic, compassionate, individualized, and effective patient care demonstrated by the use of the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. In addition, the nurse is responsible for behaviors consistent with the professional nursing role, appropriate to their education and experience, including activities related to quality of care, performance appraisal, education, collegiality, ethics, collaboration, research and evidence-based practice, and resource utilization. The Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse will follow the clinical practice guidelines as defined by the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing Society, as well as, regulatory bodies.
The registered professional nurse must hold an active license to practice nursing in the state of Iowa. A baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing is required. Must have a minimum of two years of clinical experience. Must have satisfactory completion of a Wound, Ostomy, and Continence accredited education program. Maintaining board certification by the WOCNCB is preferred and strongly encouraged. The registered professional nurse continuously seeks opportunities to enhance their own professional nursing practice. Membership in an appropriate professional nursing organization is recommended.
