Early Childhood Adjunct Instructor

Northeast Iowa Community College, Dubuque, IA


Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education required or
Master’s degree in Education with an Early Childhood Endorsement required or
Master’s degree in Education with a minimum of 18 master’s level credits in Early Childhood Education required. Previous teaching experience preferred. Ability to be credentialed via the NICC Quality Faculty Plan in the career-technical or general education area in which employed.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Teaching courses in the areas of early childhood as follows:
• Child Health, Safety, and Nutrition
• Infant and Toddler Care
• Early Childhood Curriculum I
• Child Growth and Development
2. Ability to demonstrate the following skills to students:
• Demonstrate proficiency in his/her disciplines and actively engage in opportunities for professional growth.
• Create instructional opportunities that are adaptable to diverse learners.
• Instruct curriculum while encouraging critical thinking, problem-solving, and performance skills.
• Create an environment that encourages active engagement in learning.
• Utilize informal and formal assessment strategies to evaluate student learning.
• Demonstrate fairness, respect, and objectivity in interactions with students and colleagues.
• Utilize technology as needed in the delivery of course content and classroom management.

3. Teach courses in accordance with objectives of the course outline as set forth by the department in which one is assigned.
4. Collect and report program assessment materials as required via institutional effectiveness and department dean.
5. Meet all scheduled class and office commitments as promptly as possible.
6. Coordinate placement and assess students enrolled in field experiences.
7. Attend and participate in all scheduled department faculty meetings.
8. Emphasize to all classes the importance of prompt and regular class attendance.
9. Keep attendance records on all students to comply with College guidelines.
10. Prepare and submit accurate grade reports to the College as required.
11. Submit reports on all students who may be in need of college support services.
12. Assist with the development and support of a cohesive general education program within the department, campus and college district.
13. Abide by college policies in protecting privacy and security of confidential and sensitive information.
14. Perform additional professional responsibilities as assigned.
