Mercy Medical Center is a not for profit Catholic hospital serving the tri-state area of Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin since 1879. Mercy – Dubuque has 263 beds while Mercy – Dyersville is a critical access hospital with 25 beds and a 40-bed nursing home.

The Perioperative Services Secretary is a member of the Mercy Medical Center healthcare team and performs clerical and receptionist duties under the direction and supervision of the Clinical Director. The Perioperative Secretary is responsible for scheduling operative procedures utilizing the perioperative computer scheduling system assuring that patient information; procedure, proper equipment and scheduling times are accurate and efficient. Maintains perioperative services database including file maintenance and performing internal audits. Develops and generates reports from the perioperative scheduling system for analysis by Clinical Director or other Administrative Services. Completes post op data entry for surgical procedure. Enters all patient charges into surgery scheduling system, sends charges to MIS and performs verification of data batch charges. Maintains file updates on physician privileges, tools list, preference cards, and charge lists. Sends electronic and paper surgery schedule to appropriate departments. Performs order entry on the computer, answers telephone calls, operates intercom system receiving and delivering messages to physicians and staff from ancillary departments. Provides routine approved information via telephone and in person and relays other calls and messages to appropriate staff. The Perioperative Secretary demonstrates professional behavior consistent with the Mission of Mercy, the Vision of Patient Care Services, evidence-based standards of care, and established policies and procedures.
The Perioperative Secretary is a high school graduate or equivalent. Knowledge of software programs such as Word and Excel are required. Medical Terminology required.
