The Mercy Operating Room is composed of 9 surgical suites, 2 endoscopy procedure rooms and 1 cesarean section room.  We perform surgical procedures for the following specialties: orthopedic, general surgery, gynecology/obstetrics, ophthalmology, podiatry, cardiothoracic surgery, urology, plastics, Ear Nose Throat (ENT), gastroenterology, dental/oral surgery, & spine.

An operating room nurse works in a collaborative environment working closely with other disciplines including but not limited to: anesthesia, surgeons, nursing assistants, surgical technologists, perfusionists, radiology, lab & more on a daily basis.  Daily job duties include but are not limited to: completing perioperative nursing data set assessments, preparing equipment and supplies for procedures, performing surgical preps and patient positioning, being a patient advocate, assisting anesthesia with the induction process, displaying flexibility in daily schedule, cleaning operating rooms between surgical procedures, and much more.

The Mercy registered nurse must hold an active license to practice nursing in the state of Iowa. A baccalaureate degree in nursing and certification by a nationally recognized nursing organization is preferred and strongly encouraged. An applicant must have a minimum of an associate’s degree in nursing.  The registered nurse continuously seeks opportunities to enhance his or her own professional nursing practice.  Membership in an appropriate professional nursing organization is recommended.
