The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Distance Learning Center is hiring a full-time Associate Editor.  This position will work with staff members to develop print and digital publications and communications.  In addition, this position will collaborate with faculty and staff to review and edit print course manuals and online courses.  The position will be physically located on the UW-Platteville campus in Platteville, Wisconsin.  The position is a 12-month appointment beginning October 1, 2017.  The annual salary is $36,790.



  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, technical writing, or related area.
  • At least two years of full-time professional work experience, including at least one year of experience editing and proofreading documents according to a style guide.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on several projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated success in completing projects requiring attention to details.


  • Master’s degree or three to five years’ work experience in English, communications, technical writing, or related area.
  • Technical writing/editing or course content writing/editing experience.
  • Experience writing profiles and news stories for print and online publications.
  • Experience formatting documents according to a template and style guide.
  • Experience using online course management programs, spreadsheet, and database software.
  • Experience working with learning management systems.
  • Experience with grant writing or grant research.


  • Edit and proofread content for online and print courses.
  • Provide writing and editing skills ranging from proofreading to editorial management on a variety of communications projects.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to complete projects.
  • Provide editorial and research support to grant writing and research activities.
  • Manage several projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Serve on appropriate department committees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
