Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) serves the transfer, career and technical education needs of our region’s residents, businesses and industries in a district area that encompasses eight counties and approximately 5,000 sq. miles. More than 28,400 students enroll in Business and Community Solutions courses and academic certificate, diploma and degree programs every year. NICC offers associate’s degrees and general education courses that readily transfer to four-year colleges and universities, and state-of-the-art technology and lab areas that prepare students for high demand careers.
The College has two primary campuses in Peosta and Calmar, and seven service locations in Cresco, Dubuque, Manchester, New Hampton, Oelwein and Waukon, that offer convenient amenities, services, educational resources and computer labs for students.
As one of northeast Iowa’s largest employers, the College employs 680 faculty and staff members, and the average tenure of all part-time and full-time faculty is 12 years.
1. Serve as lead person in the Dubuque Center during evening and weekend hours, without on-site supervision and oversee Town Clock Center operations on Saturdays.
2. Assist in the general operations of the Dubuque Center and Town Clock Center including: providing customer service, solving problems, and preparing/processing reports and other documents; handling telephone and walk-in inquires about programs and services offered by the college, including Adult Literacy and BCS classes and credit-bearing degree programs; registering students for Adult Literacy and BCS classes; and providing administrative support for Center Director.
3. Use judgment to determine when/who to contact in the case of events that threaten health, safety and facility. Including: monitoring security and activity in the facilities, handling any issues that arise with the assistance of the security staff person (evenings) or handling such issues alone (Saturdays); taking appropriate action to protect health and safety of students/customers, following established emergency procedures; acting to protect the facilities from damage.
4. Handle telephone inquiries, greet the public and provide information to walk-ins about credit and non-credit services. Anticipate customer needs, offering comprehensive information.
5. Provide administrative support for BCS driving programs, preparing and processing registrations, class materials, certificates and state reporting.
6. Receive and receipt money for tickets, registrations, special events, books, etc. and secure in cash box and safe.
7. Respond to instructor requests for assistance with facility issues, posting class cancellations and exchange of student work.
8. Monitor security cameras and confront/respond to any incidents in the facility. Report such incidents to security staff person and notify supervisor or designated college personnel when appropriate. Complete written incident reports.
9. Perform office and building opening/closing procedures, including proper handling of money, phone settings, locking, setting facility alarms, etc. Provide service on Saturdays without assistance of security staff.
10. Develop and maintain working knowledge of NICC policies/procedures, and be able to communicate the policies and the rationale for them to customers.
11. Perform database applications related to BCS programs/classes, Center budget and Adult Literacy programs as requested.
12. Coordinate staff appointments and calendars.
13. Coordinate testing appointments.
14. Inventory, order and organize office supplies and equipment as requested.
15. Maintain order and supplies in part-time faculty office, deliver faculty mail daily.
16. Copy, collate, and file student records, documents, brochures and other as requested.
17. Maintain student confidentiality and handle CSI (confidential, sensitive information) per college regulations.
18. Be able to operate calculator, copy machine, printer, computer, fax machine, postage meter, and other equipment efficiently and effectively.
19. Must have ability to climb stairs, lift 50 pounds, and to sit and perform keyboarding for periods of time up to four (4) hours.
Work experience and/or some post-secondary education required. Associate degree preferred. Must be a self-starter and possess initiative, customer service skills and the ability to work independently. Computer experience in word processing, database, spreadsheet, and desktop publishing required. Must have excellent organizational abilities, interpersonal, proofreading, and keyboarding skills. Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks.
