Director of Academic Assessment

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville, a regional, comprehensive university in the University of Wisconsin System, seeks a Director of Academic Assessment.

This position reports to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.  The Director of Academic Assessment leads the university’s academic assessment program. The Director fosters a culture of evidence-based assessment of student learning across the university. The Director establishes an academic assessment framework for the institution in collaboration with faculty, staff, administration, and governance bodies. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or terminal degree in an academic field represented at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, educational research, or related field
  • Three years’ experience in the development and application of academic assessment methods in higher education
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience designing and presenting workshops on academic assessment
  • Demonstrated understanding of institutional accreditation standards
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively within a team

Responsibilities:

 Meets regularly with the Provost to monitor developments in the academic assessment program and plan for ongoing improvement

  • Provides leadership by designing and implementing an institution-wide academic assessment framework directed at improving student achievement
  • Supports and assists departments and faculty throughout the assessment process by sharing best practices
  • Works collaboratively with the General Education Director, the Director of Institutional Research, the Coordinator of Co-Curricular Assessment and Program Review, and college assessment leads to produce relevant and timely reports that inform institutional decision making
  • Works with the Institutional Accreditation Committee and the Accreditations Liaison Officer on academic assessment matters as they relate to the maintenance of accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission
  • Supports specialized accreditation efforts by campus programs
  • Develops an electronic approach for storing assessment data of student learning and automatic reporting
  • Serves as ex officio member of the Assessment Oversight Commission (AOC) and the Academic Planning Council (APC)
  • Serves as a resource to faculty and staff by providing workshops on assessment and accreditation initiatives through the Teaching and Technology Center
  • Supports faculty in organizing the Annual Assessment Showcase
  • Continues professional development and/or research related to assessment, research methods, or a related field
