Flexsteel Industries, Inc at the Dubuque Operations plant will be building a brand new facility in Dubuque in the near future. There is a Project/Specifications Engineer position open in this facility. Flexsteel offers a competitive salary, along with an excellent full-time benefits including:

To take assigned projects, normally structural and of wood, hardwood or composite materials from concept through development (Frame, Wood, Poly, Cloth/Cut/Sew) to production. The goal is to make the product simple at minimum cost and weight, and clean in appearance yet adequate to perform the intended function.
Operates a CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) system (SolidWorks), database system and a word processing system to make all the required drawings and bill of materials for new frame products and assemblies (Frame, Wood, Poly, Cloth/Cut/Sew), so that tooling, purchasing and production have the information to produce and complete the product.
Works with outside suppliers and other divisions as needed for manufacture of provided components and assemblies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Regular daily attendance is required. Eight hours per day, or as directed by supervisor, is required.

2. PRODUCT DESIGN GOALS:
•Determines design goals, timing, and other objectives (functions, costs, weight, size, etc.).
•Works with D&E personnel on frames, Wood, Poly, Cloth/Cut/Sew etc and simplification of design and manufacturing.
•Makes necessary layouts, strength, process/manufacturing evaluations.
•Reviews design and other concerns with Engineering Manager.
Develops designs within manufacturing methods, and as needed, reviews design with manufacturing to keep product costs in line.
3. PRODUCT PROTOTYPE BUILDS:
•Oversees prototype build, sources purchased parts as needed (Frame, Wood, Poly, Cloth/Cut/Sew).
•Refines product to be structurally sound, functionally satisfactory, and most easily manufacturable.
•Oversees and conducts needed testing, structural or otherwise. Documents testing with written reports and pictures.
•Evaluates the product for safety concerns—sharp corners, pinch points, etc.
For final market evaluation, works with required personnel to determine final costs, tooling requirements, and timing.
•Works with D&E personnel as needed for finished product assembly and design.
4. PRODUCT RELEASE:
•Completes all needed detail and assembly drawings and bill of materials to ensure these are made with the necessary dimensions, reasonable tolerances, and specifications.
•Provides illustrations or information to D&E as needed for spec books.
•Works with quality control, purchasing, and production to have finished
•product to specifications and manufacturable. Includes detail assembly/process specifications.
•Reviews with Engineering Manager and other departments as needed so that new product gets into production expediently.
•Release appropriate documentation to suppliers and other plants as needed.
•Picks up materials and method specifications on new or changed styles for WEB PDM, loads AS400, including BOM, Options, and process data
5. PRODUCT MAINTENANCE AND OTHER DUTIES:
•Works with production and QC to run RVI/RVF Bulletins as needed to keep production running smoothly. Occasionally walks the production and assembly lines to ensure products are running smoothly.
•As needed, monitors and documents structural and durability testing of production products.
•Assembles product specification packages and requests for quotes for external production requirements or customer installation requests as directed by management.
•Trouble shoot production concerns in assembly, cut, sew, etc. as required.
•Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
•Engineering degree desired.
•2 year technical degree with design experience as a minimum.
•Two years minimum experience using Solidworks in design environment.
