Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department Chair

The College of Engineering, Math and Science (EMS) at the University of Wisconsin–Platteville invites applications for a 12-month position of Chair of the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) Department to commence in July 2018. The Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department Chair will be a 12-month, tenured faculty, leadership position reporting to the Dean of the College of Engineering, Math and Science. TThe successful candidate will provide vision and leadership for the department to enhance existing academic programs, and develop new programs to meet the evolving needs of industry, particularly in the areas of automation and controls and the industrial internet of things.

 Qualifications:

Required:

  • A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a closely related discipline
  • Associate professor rank at prior institution
  • Proven leadership ability and experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Significant personnel and budget management experience
  • Record of industry- and/or federally-funded, high quality research and scholarly work

Preferred:

  • ABET accreditation expertise
  • Full professor rank at prior institution
  • Experience with online/distance engineering education and/or new program development
  • Experience with evolving areas of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, particularly the industrial internet of things and/or Industry 4.0
  • Development and fundraising experience

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include supervising and mentoring approximately 30 faculty and staff; enhancing existing academic programs and leading new initiatives; fostering external donor relationships; leading ABET accreditation for two programs; managing the department budget; and working in coordination with the College Dean, other College departments, and diverse offices on campus to achieve strategic priorities.
