Manager Fleet Central

We are currently recruiting for a Manager of Fleet Central to work in Dubuque, Iowa. In this challenging role you will:
  • Be responsible for managing the administrative aspects of fleet operations, including, but not limited to procurement, disposal, fleet record keeping, and non-commodity operations/sales, long range planning, budgeting, vehicle standards, and strategic alliances.
  • Provide fleet administrative support services to energy operations units, as well as providing assistance to other business units and external customer groups.
  • Be responsible for the performance of the Fleet Central organization.
  • Ensure the availability of fleet, tools, and equipment for business unit operations.
  • Be the key contact and liaison for fleet issues.
  • 20% travel to support operations needs as well as interaction with any outside entities.

*Job Responsibilities
  • Develops, implements, and administers systems, procedures, and processes for the company that provides effective transportation and tool services meeting customer service levels, revenue objectives, and compliance regulations while minimizing risk and overall costs.
  • Develops and fosters relationships with internal and external customer groups that focus on delivery of quality services, addressing service failures and maximizing the value to the customer and the company.
  • Interacts with customers and ensures all customer interactions with others are handled promptly and efficiently including resolving customer concerns and complaints.
  • Develops, negotiates, and manages vendor alliances and purchase agreements.
  • Understands, interprets, and manages contracts with contract service providers.
  • Maintains excellent relationship with contractors and effectively utilizes contractor crews.
  • Keeps up to date with ANSI, OHSA FMCSA, and Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of DOT Driver Qualifications files.
  • Provides guidance, opportunity and the available training through agencies such as ASE, (Automotive Service Excellence), and CAFM, (Certified Automotive Fleet Manager), programs.
  • Responsible for strategic and long range planning for assigned process.
  • Assesses budgetary needs and inventory levels.
  • Directs the purchase of vehicles, equipment, and tools .
  • Responsible for the annual review of the trade cycle to ensure vehicle replacement is scheduled at the proper mileage and months in service and tracks the routine and reactive fleet maintenance operations.
  • Oversees the maintenance and operation of the fleet information technology systems, the development of operating procedures to ensure safe and efficient operations of fleet garages, and customer support activities.
  • Provides technical expertise and operational guidance to the company. Keeps abreast of industry issues and advises senior management on appropriate strategy.
  • Participates in the development of company positions and may participate in regulatory matters involving fleet operations and safety.
  • Responsible for the procurement and disposal of, and support the maintenance of fleet, tools, and equipment (i.e., fleet and tool crib processes).
  • Responsible for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week emergency response back-up in assigned process (i.e., widespread electrical outages or gas emergencies). This may include assessing risks and costs, determining labor resources, assisting with resource deployment, assisting in managing callout procedures and monitoring performance measures for employees or contractors involved with emergency response.
  • Demonstrates ability to handle emergency response.
  • Performs all management duties including, but not limited to, budgeting, hiring, performance reviews, coordinating and scheduling work, salary recommendations, discipline, ensure employees report to work fit for duty, leadership, grievance resolution, coaching & counseling, models Alliant Energy’s Core Values at all times.
  • All other duties as assigned.
*Job Qualifications
  • This position requires a four year degree from an accredited college or university, with emphasis in business administration or related area and five years of related experience. In the absence of a degree nine years of related experience is required.
  • A minimum of three years supervisory experience or equivalent. (Equivalent supervisory experiences may include project management, providing work direction, leadership experience through temporary assignments, roles in the community or external organizations, or other demonstrated leadership experience.)
  • Experience in fleet administration or maintenance operations preferred.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working with labor union management preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of modern fleet management preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze performance measure data, identify process improvement needs from that data, perform root cause analysis, and implement process improvement changes preferred.
  • Demonstrated financial skills such as budgeting and basic accounting
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).
