Loras All-Sports Camp Health Care Manager/Health Center Nurse

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides nursing services and coordination of health care for All-Sports Camp.

Provides nursing services, education and wellness promotion to students and employees of the College.

Essential Functions Statement for All-Sports Camp Health Care Manager

  • Supervises camp nurses, nurse interns and athletic trainers. Assist camp director with their interviews.
  • Develop and update medical policies of camp with camp physician.
  • Develop and update charting system for nursing and athletic training staff.
  • Responsible for camp medical orientation for camp personnel.
  • Assesses employee work injuries and refers as needed to occupational health.
  • Meets with camp director and head athletic trainer annually and as needed to review procedures and protocols pertinent to medical needs of the camp.
  • Review camper health forms prior to registration and oversees processing of forms at check-in.
  • Purchase medical supplies for nurses, athletic trainers and first aid needs of camp.
  • Coordinates dispensation/documentation of medications for campers as authorized by parents/guardians.
  • Reviews daily medic alerts with camp director, head counselors and athletic trainers.
  • Coordinates and documents medical/emergency care of campers, staff and visitors to camp.
  • Notify parent/camp director regarding illness/injury of camper requiring MD evaluation or limited participation in camp activites. Coordinates referral and transportation.
  • On call at night during four weeks of camp.
  • Supports the mission and vision of the College and respects the College’s Catholic tradition.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions Statement for Health Center Nurse se interns/nager or Nurse Coordinator

  • Provides professional nursing services, such as physical assessment, phycho-social evaluation, patient education, nursing treatments, dispensing of over-the-count medications, and referrals to on-campus services and/or off-campus health care providers.
  • Maintains confidential patient records.
  • Assists in providing nursing services for special college events.
  • Assists with evaluating services provided by Health Center and makes recommendations to conform to standards of practice in Iowa and standards set forth by the American College Healh Association for college health services.
  • Acts as liaison between patients and appropriate others (parents, faculty, administration, health care providers) while maintining patient’s right of confidentiality.
  • Assists with health education programs such as CPR/AED, blood-borne pathogens, and other health promotion activities including bulletin boards and occasional classroom presentations.
  • Assists with obtaining vaccine records, maintaining lists and processing student chart.
  • Asseses employee work injuries and refers as needed to occupational health.
  • Explore opportunities to partner with departments in promoting a holistic health & wellness program.
  • Coordinates campus wellness activities.
  • Supports the mission and vision of the College and respects the College’s Catholic tradition.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Education: Requires Bachelors of Science/Art and graduation from an accredited school of nursing with current Iowa licensure as a Registered Nurse.

Experience: Three years of nursing practice within the last five years. Also requires certification in Basic Life Support (BLS/AED) and completion of BLS/AED instructor certification required before completion of six month probationary period.

Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.
