The City of Dubuque has operated under the Council/Manager form of government since 1920. Under this form, legislative responsibility rests with the City Council and administration authority is given to a professional City Manager.
The City Council is responsible for setting overall policies and goals for the City and is comprised of the Mayor and six members who are selected in a non-partisan election for four year terms. The Mayor is the chief elected official and formal representative of the City. The Mayor and two council members are elected atlarge and four council members are elected from one of four wards into which the City's thirty-one square miles are divided. Over twenty boards and commissions are appointed by the council to advise them on a wide range of city issues. The City Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of city government.

GIS TECHNICIAN / INTERN
DEPARTMENT: GIS (City Manager’s Office)
HOURLY SALARY: $14.04
JOB SUMMARY: Desktop GIS data creation and editing, including transcribing information from hard copy documents into GIS, creating various maps for City departments, and may include some field data collection using ArcGIS Online and iPads.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of desktop ArcGIS is required; knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion; and experience working with a diverse workforce. Applicant must have completed a minimum of two courses related to GIS (introductory courses such as Intro to ArcGIS I & II) or have professional experience equivalent to or exceeding the minimum course requirement. Successful applicant must be able to work independently on projects and understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
REGULAR HOURS: This seasonal GIS Technician should be available to work approximately 40 hours per week between 8 AM and 5 PM Monday through Friday, with the term of thirteen weeks generally beginning in May and ending in August.
