The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is seeking applicants for the Wright Center Coordinator. The Wright Center Coordinator leads the Wright Center and manages the retention efforts and student support services provided to veteran and non-traditional students. This is a full-time, fully-benefited, annual appointment with employment beginning as soon as possible.

Responsibilities:

The Wright Center Coordinator will hire, train, supervise, evaluate and provide on-going leadership development for student staff. This position also supervises the School Certifying Official, manages the programming and services the Wright Center provides, collaborates with campus departments and is the key advocate for creating and implementing processes, policies and services that provide support to veteran and non-traditional students.

This position serves as a liaison between the Wright Center, Registrar’s Office, Financial Aid, Admission, Distance Learning Center and the university to address concerns related to veteran and non-traditional students.

The Coordinator leads and manages assessment, compliance needs, data management, and continuous improvement for the services provided in the Wright Center. This position also develops, monitors, and ensures compliance with program requirements at the university, system, state, and federal levels

The Wright Center Coordinator will provide back-up assistance to required paperwork for veteran’s Federal and State benefit requests for student veterans and students eligible for family benefits.  Due to varying mandatory deadlines, the financial impact to the student, the detailed nature of the federal guidelines, and the complexity and variety of the benefit programs, these documents require timeliness, extreme attention to detail and precision.

This position will require some evening and/or weekend hours occasionally.

Qualifications:

Candidates need to demonstrate skill in the following areas:

  • Bachelor degree required, Master’s preferred
  • Professional experience working with veteran and/or non-traditional student populations
  • Ability to create, adapt and advocate for process and policy needs which best serve students served by the center
  • Requires a professional who is detail-oriented, takes direction well, has the capacity to be a leader and a role model, and can work both independently and in a team setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, written, group facilitation and organizational skills along with the ability to exercise initiative when appropriate
  • Ability to coordinate and complete multiple projects
  • Ability to prioritize
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of military agencies and processes veteran students utilize
  • Knowledge of obstacles facing veteran students and non-traditional students
  • Military service or extensive experience working with veterans (preferred, not required)
  • Experience processing federal and state veteran benefits (preferred, not required)
  • Marketing, web design and public relations skills preferred (preferred, not required)
