The registered nurse at Mercy is a collaborative member/leader of the healthcare team and is accountable for practicing both the art and science of nursing, delivering care as prescribed by the ANA Standards of Practice & Professional Performance and consistent with Emergency Nursing professional standards.
The Flight Nurse acts as a member of the Air Care 3 team in providing advanced life support for critically ill and injured patients at the scene or during interfacility transport, assists the Emergency Dept. (ED) staff in providing care to ED patients, and participates in hospital-wide special procedure teams.
Education, Licensure and Certification
Must be a registered nurse and must hold an active license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.
Completion of ATCN, ATLS, or TNATC.
Prefer Certification in Emergency Nursing (CEN) or Certification in Flight Nursing (CFRN).
BLS, ACLS, and PALS required.
NRP highly desired.
Minimum of 3 years of critical care/ED experience.
Some flight nursing experience preferred.
Special Skills, Competencies, and Aptitudes:
- Computer Proficiency - Demonstrated experience and competency with ability to document patient care in an electronic medical record. Requires ability to use other software to perform the essential functions of the job.
Shifts rotate between days and nights; 0600-1830 and 1800-0630. BSN required along with BLS/ACLS/PALS and 3 years of ED or critical care experience. Certification required within 2 years of hire.
