Dental Assisting Clinical Coordinator and Instructor

Northeast Iowa Community College, Peosta, IA


Registered dental assistant in Iowa and certified through the Dental Assisting National Board in good standing.

A minimum of three years of work experience as a dental assistant.

Proficient in digital imaging and practice management software.

A minimum of two years teaching experience in post-secondary and/or career and technical education.

A baccalaureate degree.

Ability to communicate effectively using oral and written skills, as well as incorporation of current technology skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

a. Maintain dental assisting professional credentialing.
b. Teach courses in accordance with ADA-CODA core curriculum and accreditation standards.
c. Ensure that the clinical phase of the program remains in compliance with ADA-CODA guidelines and standards.
d. Build and maintain professional relationships with supervisory personnel of area’s clinical training sites.
e. Select and approve appropriate clinical sites.
f. Manage students clinical absenteeism and make up time schedules.
g. Provide orientation for clinical site supervisors.
h. Provide oversight of student clinical experiences, including on-site assessment and evaluation of student performance, to ensure quality of learning opportunities, following national accreditation standards.
i. Perform regular visits to clinical education sites in accordance with CODA requirements.
j. Coordinate with on-site staff to insure appropriate and sufficient evaluation of student achievement in the clinical experience and maintain accurate records.
k. Handle correspondence with clinical site staff in a timely manner.
l. Maintain CODA required statistics of clinical rotations.
m. Schedule doctors, hygienists, patients, and students for spring semester on-campus dental clinic.
n. Maintain accurate inventory of on-campus dental clinic and lab supplies and assist with ordering in a timely manner.
o. Coordinate program advisory board meetings and submit required forms to department dean in timely manner.
p. Support and enforce student policies as directed in the dental assisting program student policy and procedures manual.
q. Communicate with Program Director and Department Dean about student performance concerns and program needs in timely manner.
r. Partner with Program Director and Department Dean for curriculum development and revision.
s. Assist Program Director with coordination of student field trips.
t. Assist Program Director with gathering of data and statistics for submission of ADA-CODA annual and re-accreditation reporting.
u. Assist Program Director with program’s administrative duties, as assigned by department dean.
v. Serve as an academic advisor for dental assisting students.
