The Controller is responsible for overseeing and managing the accounting, finance/reporting and compliance functions of our business.

  •  Accounting
    • Oversee the operations of the accounting department including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives
    • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
    • Responsible for overseeing and ensuring accuracy of day-to-day accounting transactions
      • Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner
      • Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly
      • Ensure that periodic bank and credit card reconciliations are completed
      • Maintain the chart of accounts
      • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
      • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
    • Enhance and oversees A/R and A/P processes with the goal of increasing flexibility, reducing cycle time and reducing manual touchpoints
  • Reporting
    • Issue timely and complete financial statements
    • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations
    • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
    • Manage contract guarantees and deliver reporting to track compliance
    • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts
    • Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
    • Provide for a system of managing and approving expense reports
    • Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
  • Compliance
    • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
    • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
    • Protect assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls
  • Additional Duties
    • Oversee accounting staff’s job performance including coaching, counseling and appraising job results
    • Protect operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential
    • Work with minimal guidance
    • Complete special projects as assigned
    • Portray the company in a positive image
    • Required to abide by all rules, regulations and policies of the employer

Work Hours

  • Full-time position
  • Corporate office – Dubuque, IA
  • Position may require some travel including overnight stays

Required Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience for a major company or division of a large corporation
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, in particular with Excel
  • Well-organized, self-directed and able to work with minimal amount of supervision
  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels within an organization, as well as external stakeholders

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Preference will be given to candidates with the Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations
  • Preference will be given to candidates with contract, legal, and/or compliance experience

Continuing Education Requirements

  • As needed for various certifications and licenses
