Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) serves the transfer, career and technical education needs of our region’s residents, businesses and industries in a district area that encompasses eight counties and approximately 5,000 sq. miles. More than 28,400 students enroll in Business and Community Solutions courses and academic certificate, diploma and degree programs every year. NICC offers associate’s degrees and general education courses that readily transfer to four-year colleges and universities, and state-of-the-art technology and lab areas that prepare students for high demand careers.
The College has two primary campuses in Peosta and Calmar, and seven service locations in Cresco, Dubuque, Manchester, New Hampton, Oelwein and Waukon, that offer convenient amenities, services, educational resources and computer labs for students.
As one of northeast Iowa’s largest employers, the College employs 680 faculty and staff members, and the average tenure of all part-time and full-time faculty is 12 years.
Provide academic instruction and coaching in content area to students seeking support in the college Learning Center.
Create and deliver instructional support materials to be used in an individual or workshop format with students in high school equivalency, adult literacy, English-language learners, developmental education, and college credit and non-credit coursework.
Respond to student requests using active and diverse instructional strategies to facilitate student learning and to support individual learning styles.
Assist students to develop and apply appropriate learning and study skills.
Assist student with use of college learning management system and other web or technology resources when requested.
Directs the development and facilitation of student workshops.
Supervise the day to day operations of the Learning Centers.
Lead the development and assessment of student learning outcomes and service area outcomes, and in collaboration with colleagues and Dean of Student Development, implement new program resources and modifications.
Manages the use of Learning Center management software, software used for online learner support, and other technologies to support student learning.
Assist Dean of Student Development in budgeting and expenditure monitoring processes.
Maintain inventories of equipment, software and learning resources.
Update and maintain website pages and marketing materials.
Assist the Dean of Student Development with recruiting, hiring, training, supervision and scheduling of Learning Center employees and student tutors.
Demonstrate and practice cultural sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse student population and college environment.
Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with colleagues to develop successful partnerships and foster a respectful and productive work environment.
Participate in activities to promote enrollment, retention and completion of students.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Bachelor’s degree required; ability to provide instruction in at least one content are of math or science is required. Ability to provide instruction in other content areas a plus. Three years of teaching experience in a high school or post-secondary setting preferred. Computer and software competency required.
Ability to develop and deliver instructional support to meet individual student needs. Demonstrated commitment to exceptional customer service and student success. Possesses strong interpersonal and excellent communication skills. Ability and enthusiasm to deliver academic support and instruction to individuals from diverse backgrounds. Proficient in use of technology to support instruction and learning resources. Ability to work independently and establish priorities. Willingness and ability to adapt to and learn new technology. Comfortable with changes in processes to meet rapidly changing dynamics in education.
