The National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium is owned and operated by the Dubuque County Historical Society, which also operates the Mathias Ham Historic Site. The River Museum and Mathias Ham Historic Site together see over 200,000 visitors and manage outreach programs that serve over 50,000 more. Part aquarium, part museum, part science center, it is the mission of the institution to inspire stewardship by creating educational experiences where history and rivers come alive. The organization employees more than 90 full- and part-time employees.

The Marketing Intern is expected to work 10-30 hours/week for a minimum of one full semester. This position will report to the Assistant Marketing Manager.
The Marketing department creates brochures, posters, flyers, web graphics, advertisements, and publications for various departments within the Museum & Aquarium. Marketing is also responsible for the Museum & Aquarium website and social media presence. The Marketing Intern would work with the Assistant Marketing Manager to create designs for various print and web materials as well as writing for a scope of projects. This internship provides the opportunity for hands-on work across a variety of media.
- Design marketing materials from concept to print/publication.
- Assist with social media and maintenance of the Museum & Aquarium website.
- Assist in development of social media plans, posts and promotions.
- Write professional and concise promotional pieces.
- Shoot photos/video.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualified applicants should possess strong writing skills, acute attention to detail, have the ability to follow through on tasks in a timely manner with limited supervision, have strong problem-solving skills, and be familiar with design standards. Candidates must have demonstrated ability working with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.). Experience with photography/videography and video editing software preferred.
Junior standing or higher. Suggested majors: graphic design, marketing, communications, or related field. Please be prepared to provide a portfolio.
