Loras College was founded in 1839 by the Most Rev. Mathias Loras, first Bishop of Dubuque, who established St. Raphael Seminary to educate young men for the priesthood, but with the expressed intention also of providing an opportunity for higher education to the citizens of the area. The college has functioned under several names (St. Raphael Seminary, Mt. St. Bernard, St. Joseph College, Dubuque College and Columbia College), finally adopting its present name during its centennial in 1939.

POSITION SUMMARY. The Loras College Division of Molecular Life and Health Sciences invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position available August 2019. The successful candidate will have primary responsibilities in the College’s thriving Kinesiology Program with the potential to contribute to the newly developed Master of Athletic Training Program dependent on expertise. Contribution to the Loras College general education program and January term will be required. The candidate will also be expected to serve as an academic advisor to program majors, provide service to the Division and College, and engage in scholarly activity. Candidates should possess the ability and desire to engage students in research in the field.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE. Earned Doctorate in Kinesiology, Nutrition, Health Promotion, Physiology, Exercise Science, or related field preferred at time of application and required for tenure consideration. ABD will be considered. Preference may be given to candidates who hold additional certifications from NSCA, ACSM, or BOC.
COMPENSATION. Commensurate with qualifications, education and experience. DIVISION OF MOLECULAR, LIFE AND HEALTH SCIENCES. The Division of Molecular Life, and Health Sciences includes 16 full-time faculty members and currently offers undergraduate degrees in Kinesiology, Athletic Training, Biochemistry, Biology, and Biological Research. In 2016, the division launched the Kinesiology-Athletic Training dual degree program offering a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology and Master of Athletic Training Degree as part of a 5-year sequence.
THE COLLEGE. Founded in 1839, Loras College is a Catholic, four-year, coeducational, liberal arts institution that includes pre-professional and career preparation and is dedicated to high academic, ethical and moral standards. The student body consists of approximately 1,600 students, over 90 percent of whom are full-time undergraduates. The college is a wireless, laptop campus allowing for the opportunity for developing technology-rich, interdisciplinary courses for the general education curriculum.
THE COMMUNITY. Loras College’s 60 acre campus is located on one of Dubuque’s highest bluffs, overlooking the Mississippi River at the junction of the states of Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin, about three hours west of Chicago. Dubuque’s population is approximately 60,000 and its nineteenth century architecture is woven into limestone bluffs and provides a picturesque backdrop to the river landscape. Many residential and commercial areas have been designated as historical districts to preserve Dubuque’s unique heritage. Its strong education base supports numerous cultural activities, and in addition, there are sporting events, shopping facilities, schools, and churches that are convenient to its residents. The climate has marked seasons with a comfortable summer, cool spring and fall, and a winter that encourages a variety of outdoor activities that have in recent years attracted a growing tourism industry.
