Position Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Office of Financial Aid is accepting applications for a University Services Associate I. This entry level position is full-time and offers excellent benefits.


General Office Management

  • Frontline customer service tasks, including greeting students and families when they visit the office, answering phones, and answering the general financial aid email in a professional and welcoming manner
  • Guides students and families through the financial aid process, discussing outstanding requirements, processes, and timelines
  • Serves as the primary staff member tasked with scanning and imaging student paperwork and cataloging and maintaining historical paper files through record retention periods
  • Work with other staff to develop proper “paper flow” of incoming financial aid applications and related documents
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the PASS (Peoplesoft) student information system

Financial Aid

  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of Title IV and state aid rules and regulations and be able to explain those rules and regulations in laymen’s terms to students and families
  • Maintain a working knowledge of federal student aid programs, to include: Pell Grant, Direct Loans, and Campus-Based programs and the rules and regulations pertaining to them.
  • Resolve issues with the processing of those aid programs by guiding students through the process of completing required paperwork or accepting their awards.
  • Electronically certify in PASS Direct Parent Plus Loans and Alternative/Private Loans.
  • Using Great Lakes ScholarNet software, process alternative loan applications in a timely manner, monitoring when funds arrive via check or ACH and ensuring application to the student’s account

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills: the ability to actively listen, respond with empathy, and write various types of communication externally to students and parents, and internally to campus stakeholders
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computer and current software applications including, but not limited to the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent customer-service skills


Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of academic work beyond high school: a certificate, or work toward an associate’s degree
  • One year of experience in higher education student services
  • Previous experience using Peoplesoft or a similar student information data management system
