Position Summary:

The Division of Professional Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville is seeking an experienced, exceptionally skilled communications expert to join its team as a Content Strategist.  The Content Strategist will be joining a growing digital content team and will be able to actively participate in shaping content creation for the division.

If you have a deep understanding of digital trends, outstanding analytical abilities, and are a proactive problem-solver this role could be a good fit for you.  The Content Strategist will collaborate with cross-functional team members and will play a pivotal role in planning and developing communications and marketing content for the unique audiences of the division.  Physically located on the UW-Platteville campus in Platteville, Wisconsin, this position is an annual appointment with a period of employment beginning as soon as possible.  The annual salary is $46,000, depending on qualifications and/or experience.


  • Leads content strategy development; reviews overall content to ensure best practices, UW-Platteville standards, and accurate messaging.
  • Writes, produces, and edits content that accurately reflects the overall university brand through multiple platforms.
  • Reviews web content for accuracy, functionality, and nomenclature.
  • Assists with SEO strategy and assessment.
  • Works with the leadership team, marketing and communications teams, and division staff to identify communication needs.
  • Be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations, including necessary training and drills.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or relevant field.
  • 2-3 years of work experience in communications with emphasis on content strategy, content management, and content creation for multiple audiences.
  • Experience defining key messages and insights for a brand.
  • Strong copywriting skills, combined with the ability to create, revise, direct, and repurpose content to meet the strategic goals of the division and the university.
  • Demonstrated research and interview skills.
  • Excellent conceptual thinking and presentation skills with ability to clearly explain rationale and recommendations to teammates.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and diverse work environment.
  • Standout problem solver with excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Have a good eye for design and be able to communicate and collaborate with writers, editors, graphic designers, and the marketing team to influence how content will be presented or distributed in multiple formats.
  • Understand modern content channels (websites, print materials, social media, podcasts, etc.).
  • Light Google Analytics experience (page views, bounce rate, time-on-site, etc.).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in communications, marketing, or relevant field.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Experience in or knowledge of project management.
