Position Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is seeking applicants for two full-time Disability Specialists.  Both positions are located on the UW-Platteville campus.  One position will serve the Richland and Baraboo/Sauk County branch campuses and involves regular travel to these campuses. Both positions coordinate services for students with disabilities, assist students with disabilities in becoming integrated into the campus community, and maximizing their independence. In addition, the Disability Specialists institute programs and projects designed to increase the awareness and responsiveness of the campus community to the needs of disabled students.  Annaul salary is $40,000. Travel costs to branch campuses is covered by the university.



  • Determine eligibility and coordinate services and accommodations for students with disabilities
  • Assist current and prospective students and their families through the process of acquiring appropriate documentation and registering for services
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and show professional discretion in all interactions
  • Assess and provide appropriate assistive technology
  • Provide training to students on how to implement accommodations and use assistive technology provided by UW-Platteville
  • Ensure compliance with disability laws
  • Comply with FERPA, University policies, and department guidelines
  • Serve as a consultant to faculty members regarding accommodations and provide training on disability issues
  • Work some evenings and weekends as required


What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Psychology Special Education, or related field

Two years of full-time experience working with individuals with disabilities or related population at secondary level

Demonostrated commitment to or experience with diverse populations


Preferred Qualifications:

Master degree or post-baccalaureate course work in Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Psychology Special Education, or related field

Demonstrated knowledge of project planning transition programming and problem solving techniques

Knowledge of Universal Design and working with young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders
