Hispanic Outreach Specialist

Position Summary: The Hispanic Outreach Specialist is a newly created position that works to build on current pre-college services and enhance outreach activities to build trusted relationships and on-going community dialogues between UW-Platteville and tristate Hispanic communities. This person will provide consistent outreach to these communities in effort to better serve them, as well as to create an educational pipeline and access for students within these communities. The salary range for this position is $42,000-$50,000/year. Responsibilities: Build and foster relationships and make connections with Hispanic, Latinx and/or other immigrant and refugee communities Organize, schedule, and conduct outreach and recruitment activities on a variety of topics to meet identified needs and opportunities at K-12 schools, community agencies, and on and off campus sites. This includes, but is not limited to: community listening workshops, interviews, focus groups, and archival data collection. Arrange transportation, facilities, and refreshments as appropriate Provide DACA clinics to include current state and federal regulations, legal representation and other pertinent information Work with families to assist them with education, government, workforce and other established needs Travel to outreach sites Flex schedule as necessary to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet community needs Work closely with the Precollege Coordinator and assist with College Clubs, summer camps and other outreach programming Maintain a small roster of current students in an auxiliary advisor capacity Oversee programming and supply budgets, staffing and management of resources Provide content and support for website, social media and marketing materials Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and written in English and Spanish Knowledge of Hispanic communities, the dynamics within and issues they may face Knowledge of the K-12 education system Working knowledge of college readiness, financial literacy and recruitment strategies that affect access to education, retention, and achievement gap for underrepresented minority students Current and valid driver's license and ability to travel Requires a professional who is detail-oriented, takes direction well, has the capacity to be a leader and a role model, and can work both independently and in a team setting Knowledge of outreach methods and activities for historically underrepresented students Experience in community organizing/event planning Ability to understand, interpret laws, regulations, policies, guidelines and procedures Ability to communicate effectively and work with diverse clientele in a team environment Ability to provide dynamic hands-on activities, lead community discussions and provide engaging presentations to students, families and community members Marketing, web design and public relations skills preferred Department Information: The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs is to support the outreach, retention and academic attainment for under-represented students.
