Instructional Designer

Northeast Iowa Community College, Calmar, IA Peosta, IA

Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Communication, Information Systems, or closely related field AND Three (3) years of formal experience in course design and educational technology, two (2) of which must be with higher education; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

● Familiarity with adult learning theories and Kirkpatrick’s 4 Levels of Evaluation.
● Instructional design models, preferably ADDIE.
● Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere, Audition, Captivate, Animate, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat Pro).
● Articulate (Storyline, 360, and Rise).
● Proficient knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, PPT, Excel) and G-Suite (Google Products)
● Proficient knowledge of Learning Management Systems, D2L Brightspace Preferred.
● Ability to work collaboratively and creatively in a deadline driven environment.
● Advanced critical thinking, analysis, and synthesis skills required.
● Strong verbal and written communication skills.
● Self-starter, innovative and creative.
● Must be able to manage multiple projects at different stages, while meeting deadlines and quality standards.
● Precise, thorough, and detail-oriented.
● Familiarity with and ability to implement ADA accessibility and media standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
● Provides instructional design and course development support to faculty.
● Collaborates with faculty and other stakeholders in the development of new courses and the adaptation of existing courses.
● Identifies, develops and revises curricular materials, including competency statements, learning objectives, learning activities, learning resources and assessments in consultation with subject matter experts.
● Reviews curricular materials to ensure proper alignment to the intended objectives and facilitates an agreement for necessary changes.
● Assists faculty in the identification, selection, and deployment of instructional technologies to support teaching and learning.
● Assists faculty in identifying and evaluating online content resources (including Open Educational Resources).
● Ensures academic and quality standards are reflected in all aspects of the course design and student experience.
● Conducts quality assurance reviews on courses and implements revisions.
● Develops and delivers ongoing faculty training in the use of instructional-sound online teaching and learning strategies as well as technologies.
● Assists in college initiatives as assigned.

Essential Functions

The Instructional Designer manages the course development process and evaluates curricular materials (e.g., courses, technologies, modules) based on quality rubrics. The ideal candidate has expertise in learning theories, online pedagogy, and educational technology.
