The City of East Dubuque has operated under the Council-Manager form of government since 1995. Under this form, legislative responsibility rests with the City Council and administration authority is given to the City Manager. The City Council is responsible for setting overall policies and goals for the municipality and is comprised of a Mayor and six Aldermen who are selected in a nonpartisan election for four year terms. The Mayor is the chief elected legislative official and formal representative of the City. The Mayor is elected at-large and Aldermen are elected within their wards, which comprise of two Aldermen per ward. The City Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of city government. Departments include General Administration, Zoning, City Clerk, City Treasury, Police, Fire, Ambulance, Public Transit, Public Works, Playground and Parks, Waterworks, Sewerage, and Waste Collection. The City of East Dubuque employs 15 full-time employees and 7 part-time employees. The municipality has a combined operating and capital budget of $4 million.
The City of East Dubuque, Illinois (population 1704) is seeking an experienced and consultative leader as its next Police Chief. The current Chief is retiring after 23 years of service to the community. The department has six full-time sworn officers including the Chief. The annual operating budget is $500,000. AA or BA degree in related field and 3-5 years' law enforcement supervisory experience preferred but not required. Salary range for the position is $55,000 to $65,000 depending on qualifications with an excellent benefit package.
