Tutor Coordinator

Position Summary:

Student Support Services Program is a federally funded TRIO program that serves 400 first generation and low income college students as well as students with disabilities on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville campus. This nine month, full time, academic year appointment is responsible for providing general oversight to the program’s tutoring component.  This position hires, trains, supervises and schedules the program’s tutors.  This position is grant funded and ongoing employment is contingent on future grant funding.



  • Provides general oversight of the program’s tutoring component
  • Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates the program’s tutors
  • Schedules all tutoring sessions, reviews tutors’ lesson plans, mid-term and final evaluations
  • Oversees and approves all tutee payroll
  • Maintains respective forms and related record keeping
  • Assists the director in the collection of required statistics
  • Provides excellent customer service for student participants, tutors and campus colleagues
  • Provide staffing and oversight for the STEM and Math Help Rooms
  • Assists in the development and implementation of workshops in the areas of financial literacy, course selection, graduate school advising and financial aid
  • Participates in occasional program activities that may require night/weekend hours.


What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in education or a closely related field
  • A minimum of two years of experience providing academic assistance in a course content area or study skills, academic coaching, advising
  • Supervisory experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organizational skills, an ability to multi-task and provide attention to details in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to understand and interpret university and federal grant policies and regulations
  • Computer skills pertaining to database management, form development, and standard office software
  • Experience working with racially diverse students as well as potential first generation college students, students from low income backgrounds, and students with disabilities
