The Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) works collaboratively with physicians, coders, nurses, and other patient care providers to improve the quality of documentation, and more accurately reflect the intensity of service and severity of illness. The CDS provides education and feedback to the medical staff one-on-one and in-group settings, regarding medical record documentation.
BSN required. Current RN license to practice nursing in Iowa. Three to five years’ clinical experience required. Previous Clinical Documentation Specialist experience preferred but not required Clinical Documentation Specialist Certification preferred or obtained within 5 years of hire Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 5 years thereafter.
