We are looking for a PRN Histotechnician to work in our Lab. Work hours will vary per required need. As a PRN employee you will be required to work (1) 8 or 12 hour shift per month, (2) weekends per year and (1) holiday per year.

The Histology Technician (HT) is responsible for providing timely and effective services to the customers of the departments assigned, assuring that the professional and technical process is carried out. Customers include predominately young adult to geriatric patients. The HT works in consultation with the laboratory supervisor assigned to Histology to assure that services are consistent with the needs of the Pathologists and medical staff.

Qualifications

	Minimum Requirements Identify items that are minimally required to perform the essential functions of this position.	Preferred or Specialized Not required to perform the essential functions of the position.
Education:	High School diploma and successful completion of a certified Histology Program.
Experience:	Less than one year	Previous histology experience
License(s)/Certification(s):	Board Certified/Eligible in Histology as Histotechnician (HT, ASCP) or Histotechnologist (HTL, ASCP).
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:	Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English. Multicultural sensitivity. Microsoft Office – basic computer skills. Customer/patient focused. Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
Other:	Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.

Responsibilities

Histology

Performs and demonstrates proficiency in fixing, cutting, mounting, and staining of tissues.
Assists in maintaining records and specimen storage and disposal for the Cytology laboratory.
Accurately performs routine H & E stain, special stains and immunohistochemical stains.
Assists the Pathologists in the performance of frozen sections.
Assists in maintaining records and specimen storage and disposal for the Histology laboratory.
Uses, monitors and troubleshoots equipment in the Histology laboratory.
Assists with FNA procedures.
Prepares body fluids for Cytological analysis.
Consistently demonstrates attention to detail in following protocol for patient, sample, and aliquot identification and labeling.
