The Director for Health Information Management (Medical Records) plans and directs the operation of the Health Information Management Department, including the Coding and Medical Transcription areas. Maintains health information records in compliance with state laws, Joint Commission requirements, third party payers and hospital policies. Maintains necessary statistics required for State, Federal and other regulatory agencies. Acts as a resource for health information issues related to third party payers. Serves as the hospital’s lead resource for issues relating to record retention and record destruction requirements. Coordinates functions between hospital units, acts as a resource, maintains support services for medical staff quality improvement activities and ensures confidentiality of patient information. Maintains the department’s operating budget, develops goals and objectives and ensures that services are provided in a manner consistent with the mission and philosophy of MercyOne Medical Center.
Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management Administration or related field.
RHIT (Accreditation as a Registered Health Information Management Technician) or RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator); Member of AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association).
Two to three years’ experience in all phases of health information management preferred.
Demonstrated leadership and management abilities. Prefer 1+ years experience in a leadership role.
