About the Program
Hillcrest's Anna B. Lawther Academy provides residential treatment programs for behaviorally challenged teens that are highly respected and nationally accredited. The academy is one of only a few providers in the State of Iowa that provides a full continuum of residential services on one beautifully landscaped campus with excellent facilities, and is located in Dubuque, Iowa. These continuum of services include: foster group care, a dual-diagnosis Psychiatric Medical Institution for Children (PMIC), an emergency youth shelter, supervised apartment living, an on campus therapeutic school, therapy and medication management, primary physical health care, and Integrated Health Home programming.
Your Responsibilities
As a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) you will be responsible for coordinating specific treatment interventions relating to issues of substance abuse and chemical dependency. You will likewise ensure accurate methods of intervention and treatment are utilized for clients with issues including substance abuse and chemical dependency. Additional responsibilities include:
- Providing substance abuse assessments, individual and group therapy to clients with substance abuse and chemical dependency issues
- Completing thorough assessment of needs on all Dual-Diagnosis clients
- Providing substance abuse/chemical dependency group therapy
- Monitoring client progress related to substance abuse treatment goals, including individual sessions with clients
- Providing substance abuse/chemical dependency education to clients and their families
What You Need
- Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor as described by the Iowa Board of Substance Abuse Certification
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Possess the skills necessary to provide individual and group therapy and family education related to substance abuse/chemical dependency
- Demonstrate knowledge of the disease concept of chemical dependency as well as the theories of personality, abnormal psychology and human growth and development
- Strong interpersonal skills, excellent time management skills and a personal investment in the interdisciplinary treatment team process
What Makes You Stand Out
- Bachelor's degree in a highly relevant area of study, such as: Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Human Services, or Criminal Justice
- Prior experience in the treatment of clients with Substance Abuse/Chemical Dependency issues and an understanding of psychological and social work interventions
