Medical Associates is hiring an HR Generalist/HR Manager to join our dynamic and fun Human Resources team!

Where You Will Be Working:

Medical Associates Clinic and Health Plans is a multi-specialty group practice combined with a growing health insurance company.  Our 1100 health care and health insurance professionals lead the way in providing quality healthcare and top notch insurance products in Northeast Iowa, Southwest Wisconsin and Northwest Illinois. This position is an onsite position, based out of the HR department at the West Campus in Dubuque, Iowa.

What You Will Be Doing:

As an experienced HR Generalist/HR Manager, you will serve as a strategic HR Business Partner and will partner with/support a variety of areas throughout the organization. You will enjoy a wide variety of work including:

  • You will partner with our leadership team as an advisor to management and employees on matters such as employee engagement, succession planning/talent management, organizational structure effectiveness, conduct and policy compliance, performance management, team issue resolution, staff retention, hiring and selection and other related HR processes. You will consult with your leader (the CHRO) and legal counsel as appropriate on difficult matters. You will utilize a continuous improvement mindset to ensure that HR processes are efficient and effective.
  • You will utilize strong analytical skills, project management skills and computer skills to lead projects that are designed to ensure Medical Associates continues to be a great place to work. You will assist in identifying, researching and analyzing issues, concerns and trends affecting employee engagement and satisfaction and recommend and implement solutions. Sound knowledge of employment law, compensation and benefits strategies, etc. will be utilized in the role.
  • You will work closely with other members of the HR Team on a variety of other projects and objectives which vary from year to year based on corporate strategies and employee challenges.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to ask tough questions to get to the root of a problem and propose practical and useful solutions. 
  • Solid software skills including excel and the ability to work with HR specific software (Ultipro, Kronos, Halogen, Jobvite).
  • Education and training on local, state and national employment law and how to navigate legal matters in the workplace in accordance with company specific HR policies.
  • A track record of success in past HR roles and proven ability to work with fellow HR team members.
  • Project management skills and ability to develop and implement organization wide HR solutions.

 Expectations:

  • HR Generalist/Manager is expected to lead by example and operate with a good amount of autonomy, independent decision making, and thought leadership.  The HR Manager shall also lead complex HR projects in consultation with CHRO.
  • Leverage HR knowledge and strong written and verbal communication skills to serve as a leader and internal consultant to managers for assigned departments on Human Resources issues.
  • Stay current with employment laws and trends and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local and clinic specific employment regulations and policies.
  • Ensure personal knowledge and compliance and help facilitate employee knowledge and compliance of/with MA policies, procedures, and guidelines.  Ensure personal knowledge of MA Compensation and Benefits package and processes as well.
  • Maintain a friendly, respectful, professional and proactive working relationship within MA and with external contacts.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding Medical Associates, its clients and employees.
  • Possesses and continually develops strong analytical skills. Also has strong skills in Microsoft Office products as well as Ultipro, Saba, Kronos and other HR related online vendor portals, etc.

Schedule: Core business hours are Mon-Fri 8:00-5:00 with occasional needs to work earlier or later as needs dictate.  Salary position with full benefits.  Must be able and willing to work onsite and to travel between locations (which are all located within 1 hour of Dubuque, IA).  This is not a remote work opportunity.

COVID Precautions/requirements:

Medical Associates is a healthcare organization and strongly encourages COVID-19 vaccination. Masking is currently required in all facilities.  Hiring preference will be given to individuals who fully support clinical best practices such as those outlined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).  

Knowledge & Skills:

Education: Bachelors degree required, Masters degree preferred. HR or business degrees preferred.

Experience: Five to ten years of HR Generalist/Manager related experience.

Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts are important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) is necessary.
