Job Overview
Medical Associates Clinic is hiring a full-time Laboratory Technician Supervisor. The Laboratory Technician Supervisor will oversee Laboratory Technicians at the East and West Campus locations in Dubuque, IA while also performing laboratory technician duties 50% of the time. This person will act as a departmental liaison with pathologists, referring physicians, and clinical departments. The Laboratory Technician Supervisor will also work with physicians, advanced practice providers and staff to ensure quality care.
Location: This position is based out of both East and West campuses in Dubuque, IA.
Schedule: Mon-Fri between the hours of 6:00am - 6:00pm (fluctuating hours within these times)
What You'll Be Doing:
- Supervise and develop laboratory technician staff, payroll, scheduling, budgeting, and compliance with clinic and regulatory guidelines.
- Grow and develop the department and positively initiate and lead change.
- Perform all major duties and responsibilities of the laboratory technician role.
- Perform supervisory duties to include but not limited to: managing efficient workflows, staff performance evaluations, managing performance concerns, schedules, selection, mentor and training of new staff.
- Assist with the development, implementation and revision of laboratory protocols and workflows. Maintain all logs, service records, and other departmental documentation in an organized and easily retrievable system to assist in ensuring compliance, accreditation, legal, safety, and other regulatory requirements.
- Provide input in departmental budget including equipment warranty/maintenance contracts and recommendations for equipment purchases.
- Act as department liaison with vendors, service personnel, pathologists, clinical department supervisors and all external customers. Act as an internal consultant to the phlebotomists for specimen requirements, processing and procurement
- Complete all other assigned projects and duties.

Knowledge & Skills:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or medical technology certification from an accredited institution.
Experience: Three to five years of similar or related experience. At least four years of laboratory training and/or experience in non-waived testing including microbiology (bacteriology, mycology, and parasitology), diagnostic immunology, chemistry (routine, urinalysis, endocrinology), and hematology.
Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization, and/is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important (vendor reps, labs, offices, hospital, etc.) and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary.
Other Skills: Use and operate a wide variety of diagnostic and medical equipment including laboratory analyzers. Use personal protection safety equipment including gloves, lab coats, gowns, goggles, and face masks/shields. Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
