Job Overview
The University of Dubuque is a growing faith-based University that is seeking a Residence Hall Director within the Office of Residence Life. The University of Dubuque offers an excellent benefits package including tuition remission, paid holidays, vacation and sick time, and a retirement match.
The Residence Hall Director will assume responsibility for an area(s) within the Office of Residence Life. This will include live-in, direct supervision of one residential community. The halls range in occupancy from 136 to 153 residents, and are traditional, suite, and pod style. Facilities are co-ed by floor/wing. The Residence Hall Director will supervise one/two graduate assistants within the Office of Student Life and supervise six to eight Resident Assistants in each area of responsibility. The Residence Hall Director may also assume responsibility for additional areas within the Office of Student Life such as Title IX, Student Guidelines, First-Year Student Success, Housing Logistics, and potential other duties and/or responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Administration
- Direct the overall management and operation of the residence hall and assigned area
- Perform 24/7 on-call duty rotation as scheduled
- Submit administrative reports and forms (e.g., weekly occupancy reports, room change forms, etc.)
- Supervise hall opening and closing procedures
- Selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of student staff and employees
- Facilitate and participate in extensive pre-service as well as on-going in-service training sessions
- (e.g., staff retreats, staff development exercises and activities, leadership workshops)
- Plan and facilitate weekly staff meetings
- Conduct bi-weekly meetings with individual staff members
- Perform formal evaluation of each staff member every semester
- Facilitate interviews for department-wide staff selection processes
- Facilitate and participate in extensive pre-service as well as on-going in-service training sessions
- Programming
- Develop and implement programming models
- Support programming efforts through presenting programs, attending programs, and providing resource information for staff programming
- Student Guidelines & Conduct
- Communicate student guidelines which protect the individual student's rights and define student responsibilities as outlined in the Student Handbook
- Serve as initial conduct hearing officer; Generate related correspondence to residents
- Consult with administration regarding referrals or other necessary action
- Resource for Residents
- Provide assistance and information regarding hall issues and concerns, departmental policies, etc. In addition, serve as a resource regarding university departments, services, and facilities
- Coordinate emergency procedures (e.g., medical/personal concerns, fire alarms, threatening weather)
- Counsel and refer regarding personal and academic concerns
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the University’s Mission
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree preferred - Bachelor’s degree required
- Previous residence hall staff experience and supervisory experiences are preferred
REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS:
- A furnished one or two-bedroom apartment is provided for the Residence Hall Director, spouse, and legal dependents which includes utilities, air conditioning, internet, and basic cable TV. Additional cable or internet services are the responsibility of the Residence Hall Director. All residences are smoke-free in alignment with the smoke-free campus.
- The Residence Hall Director is provided a meal plan through the University Dining Services when the University is in regular session.
